PRODUCTION COMPANY LOGO RESEARCH

Hi bloggers! Today in class we had been talking about many different types of companies logo research. Today, I am going to be talking about some of them.
This is going to be really helpful for us as we have to design our own logo for our movie project.
Here there are some of them:

"20th CENTURY FOX", is an American film studio currently owned by 21st Century Fox. It is one of the Big Six major American film studios, and is located in the Century City area of Los Angeles. just west of Beverly hills. The studio was formerly owned by News Corporation. 20th Century Fox is a member of the Motion Picture Association of America. In 2015, 20th Century Fox celebrated its 80th anniversary as a studio.
In this logo we can see that it puts "20th CENTURY FOX", the color is light a bright gold color. It puts this letter because these logo was created at the 20th century. It is located in the century city area of Los Angeles. We can also see a night sky around it and some light bulbs.

"METRO GOLDEN MAYER", is an American media company, involved primarily in the production and distribution of feature films and television programs.
Once the largest, most glamorous, and most revered film studio, MGM was founded in 1924 when the entertainment entrepreneur Marcus Loew gained control of Metro Pictures, Goldwyn Pictures, and Louis B. Mayer. In this logo we can see an animal (lion) at the centre of it. The background it is very dark, black and the lion and the letters are golden. The color gold, accompanied the lion because of it hair color so makes the viewer fix in it.

"DREAMWORKS", DreamWorks Animation, believes that great stories inspire great possibilities. Striving for the best storytelling imaginable, DreamWorks rewrites the rules of whats been done by encouraging its team and fans alike to imagine something different.

"UNIVERSAL 100th ANNIVERSARY", is an American film studio, owned by Comcast through the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group division of its wholly owned subsidiary NBCUniversal. The company was founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle, Mark Dintenfass, Charles O.
In this universal logo we can see that it appears the universe around an enormous ball called The Earth, we can see that it also appears the letter "UNIVERSAL" in a bright shiny way, also, the letter are in capital letter.

ANALYZE OF "THE WALKING DEAD"

Hello, today in class we have to choose between any american TV serie that we want, to analyze a scene that we like, so I chose "The walking dead".

"The walking dead" is an American horror drama television series developed by Frank darabont, based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Allard.

CAMERA SHOTS:
Firstly in the introduction of the scene, we can see how the characters are acting, they show at the spectator, that they are overwhelmed. We can see an establishing shot since the scene start, because it shows the location, it is like a forest with a house in it. Also we can see that there are lots of master shots in this scene, because for example we can see many different objects like guns, that makes the viewer believe that is a shooting scene and also we can see different people inside these scene.
Also I can add that we can find also mid shots in the scene, an example of it it is when the man is with the zombies around the beginning, at the minute 0:18 - 0:20. I can add that there is also an over the shoulder shot, when at the minute 1:05/1:08 the man is shooting the zombie.
We can see a point of view shot, when for example at the beginning of the scene around the minute 0:01 to the minute 0:06 the black man is watching the people with the zombies, and the camera turns to see whats the black man watching. Between this minutes we can cut that in the minute 0:01 to the minute 0:02, it shows a close up shot that show us the distress that the character is showing at what appears to be looking at.

CAMERA ANGLES:
We can see, that in the minute 1:28 to minute 1:32 there is occurring a high angle, when the man standing is pointing the other man on knees. Also at the minute 1:37 at 1:38 the camera is pointing more or less up, so we can say that it is occurring a low angle in that point of the scene. Also we can analyze that at the beginning of the scene, at the minute 0:03 to 0:06 it is occurring a mid angle because we can see the distance between the different characters of the scene.

CAMERA MOVEMENTS:
Also I will talk about camera movements in this scene, because there are lots of camera movements inside it. At the introduction of the scene in the minute 0:07 to the minute 0:11 we can see a "Track movement" showing the person following the camera, also, we can see another example of "Track", when at the minute 0:13 to 0:20 the camera is following the person and the two zombies.
At the minute 0:30 to the minute 0:33 we can see a "Pan movement" showing the camera looking and moving side to side, that, at these example is moving to the right place. I can add that at the minute 1:15/1:18 there is happening a "Slow motion" in the scene, when the man shoots the zombie, and the camera starts to look slowly recording.
Also we can see another example of "Tilt movement" at the minute 1:28 to 1:32, again, when the man is pointing the other man on knees, because the camera moves up and down, not too much time, but it is a little movement in that moment of the scene.

EDITING:
We can see lots example of "Cutting" in this scene, for example at the minute 0:21/0:23 in that little seconds, we can see that the camera cuts one shot and replaced with another in the same place but showing other characters of the scene. Also there is a clear "Eyeline match" when at the minute 0:01/0:04 the black man is looking at the people with the zombies. Also there is lots of "Action match" like "Cuttings", an example of "Action match" in this scene at the minute 0:55/0:59, when the camera is pointing the man and zombie, and then, the camera turns to focus more near the zombie.

SOUND:
There are lots of dialogues, even if it shouting, but we can say the an example of "Diegetic sound" it is at the minute 0:22/0:50 when the man go at the zombies and start shouting to the mans who carried the zombies and the two of them starts shouting between them. We can say that there are many words spoken by actors, so there are also "Dialogues" in these scene.
We can see an example of "Non - diegetic" sound at the minute 1:15 until the end of the scene, because there is background music since the man shoots the zombie.

MISE-EN-SCENE:
We can see the "Location" of the scene, it is like a forest or countryside, with a house also in it. "The setting" is design with lots of guns and dangerous objects that can kill human people and also zombies, and again, we can see the location there is according to what is happening in the scene.
"The costume" of the scene, we can see it in the different characters that are found. the characters or actors, are wearing confortable, and field clothes, and it looks being not winter, because they are wearing short t-shirts and clothes. The "Props" of the scene can be the guns, and other specialized objects it shows the scene, that can killed any one.

ANALYSIS OF BREAKING BAD

Hello, today my class and me, we have chosen to analyse the part of the film : Breaking Bad "Stay out of my territory" Full Scene.

Breaking Bad is an American crime drama television series created and produced by Vince Gilligan.
It tells the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a struggling high school chemistry teacher diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. Together with his former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), White turns to a life of crime, producing and selling crystallized methamphetamine to secure his familys financial future before he dies, while navigating the dangers of the criminal world.

CAMERA SHOTS:

We can see that in the first part of the video it shows an establishing shot, it shows the location of the scene, it is a supermarket. Also, we can see that it is taken from a low angle. There is an example in the minute 0:15 seconds, of a close-up, in this video, we can see lots of close-up showing into the man. When he gets the paint, we can see how he stops, and it is a long shot. We also can see an extreme long shot at the minute 2:11 to 2:30 because we can see the man going out to another location and also shows the old location of the scene.

CAMERA ANGLES:

After analyzing some of the camera shots, Im going to focus on the camera angles of the scene.
We can see that the camera looks up, when it goes around 1 minute, showing the two mans talking. Around the minute 2:24 to minute 2:55 the scene shows how the man have preponderance in the scene.

CAMERA MOVEMENTS:

I will also talk about the camera movements, because, we can also see camera movements in this video. At the minute 0:30 seconds we can see how a track movement is happening. The camera is following the person acting. Also we can add that in the minute 2:31 to minute 2:38 it is another track movement different from the first one, because we can see how first, the man is following the camera and the how the camera walks at the man. After the establishing shot I talked about at the first of the scene, it is occurring a pan movement, which rotates from the milks to the man.

  ------------------------->

EDITING:

In the scene we can see in the minute 1:07 to 1:40 there is a shot/ reverse shot when the man is talking with the other man. We can see also a inside the editing techniques, there is also a cutting process, where at the beginning of the video, it shows the location, and then pass cutting through the milk boxes. Also it is a line match at the minute 0:40 to 0:44, what shows the man looking at the inside of the shopping cart and it is a cutting in this moment, to show the things inside the cart.
There is an action match showing different angles of the scene in the minute 0:37 to 0:46.

 ------------------------->

SOUND:
The first sound we can analyze it is a diegetic sound, we can see this from the minute 1:02 to the minute 1:40 how a dialogue is happening between the two mans. In this scene we can also found a non-diegetic sound when the man is taking the milk from the supermarket an it is a music at the background. Also we can introduce that at the minute 2:04 to the end of the scene it is also a non-diegetic sound in the scene. At the ending of the video we can can see the conflict is happening between the man showing superiority and the other people, the scene it is consistent to the music is sounding, so it is also a sound motif. We can see Dialogue too, in the minute  0:47 to 1:42 it is an example of it. Also there are voice overs in the supermarket at the people inside while the scene is happening. Also there are background noises, there are these noises of these at the scene, an example at the beginning like the supermarket and also in the parking at the first is another example.

MISE-EN-SCENE:

Again, we can see the location of the scene, it is in a supermarket, and how the setting is design, like a parking, and lots of things for buying inside the super market. The actors, are wearing confortable clothes and like as if it were winter, but one the enemys wears clothe of sleeve short to appear more strong and cause more impact at the spectator.

OPENING FILM

WHAT IS AN OPENING FILM?

An opening film is the method by which films or television programs present their title, key production and cast members utilizing conceptual visuals and sound. It typically includes the text of the opening credits, and helps establish the setting and tone of the program. It may consist of live action, animation, music, still images, and/or graphics.

What makes a good/successful/amazing film opening?

A best opening scene may not be equally interesting as rest of the movie (it may be as interesting or more interesting than thereat of the movie, but doesn't have to be), but it makes rest of the story telling or movie watching more and more easy and meaningful. More importantly, a best opening scene must be an integral part of the movie. It should be so important that without the opening piece, rest of the movie shouldn't be meaningful.

The key is to figure out what not do first. Don't spending the first 10 pages of the script giving the exposition, introducing the characters, setting up moods/themes, etc. Because then you have lost the spectator already by page 10 or any.

I am going to show examples of film opening in different films:

  • STAR WARS (Fantasy): The opening in that film threw us into the world. The Star Destroyer coming into endless view in pursuit of the smaller ship! The droids making their escape. The entrance of Darth Vader. His confrontation with the Princess where we learn about the plans. By the time, the droids escape, we know what we are in for and we are engaged.

  • RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (Adventure) : The classic opening. We see Indy. Barely hear one word from him and learn next to nothing about his black story. He is a man of action. We learn about him by actions. By the time he escapes from the natives and we open to him wearing glasses and teaching university class, we are hooked.

  • THE BIG CHILL (Drama) : Within a couple of minutes, we know what to expect. We open with a couple characters. No details. Just a moment in their life. Then Close´s character is crying after answering the phone. Then we see a body being dresses as we additional quick moments in the lives of our main characters as they react to the news and are on their way to the funeral.

  • lighting connotes certain meanings about characters.

LOCATION: Where the scene takes place.

SET DESIGN: How the setting is designed.

COSTUMES: Clothes worn by the actors.

PROPS: Objects used in the scene.

EDITING TECHNIQUES:

Hello! In this class of the week, me and my class, are researching about "Editing techniques" of camera work. Im going to be showing you different types of these, in this post:

Cutting: the process where one shot is replaced on screen immediately by the next.

Shot / reverse shot: Cutting back and forth between people in an conversation.

Eyeline match: Cutting to show what a character is looking at.

Graphic match: Cutting to show another angle of the scene.

Action match: Cutting to show another angle of the scene.

There are more different types of editing:

Jump cut: Cutting out the middle section of a shot.

Crosscutting: Cutting back and forth between two or more scenes happening simultaneously.

Slow motion: What it says. Moving or proceeding at a strikingly slow rate.

Dissolve: One shot fades out as the next shot fades in.

Fade put/ fade in: The image fades out to a blank screen, or fades in from a blank screen.

Superimposition: One image is placed on top of another image.

Long take:  A single continuous shot that does not cut for an unusual length of time. (e.g. over a minute)

Fast paced / slow paced editing: When the editing is fast paced the action will cut rapidly from shot to shot with each shot lasting only a few seconds. Slow paced editing will involve limited cutting from shot to shot.

SOUND

SOUND can represent social groups in a range of ways:

  • The language and accent of a character.
  • Use of music can tell you about the character.
  • Ambient sounds can tell you about the setting.
  • Dialogue.
Diegetic: Sound originating from a source in the scene, (e.g. dialogue)

Non- diegetic: Sound added in postproduction, (e.g. background music)

Sound motif: A sound or piece of music associated with a character, place or theme (like the JAWS)

Sound Bridge: Sound linking the end of one scene and the beginning of the next.

Dialogue: Words spoken by actors.

Voiceover: Dialogue spoken by an unseen character over related images.

Ambient sound: Background noise.

There are two more example of sound:

Direct address: When the actor speaks directly to the camera.
